The El Paso Archaeological Society offers a variety of rewarding and exciting opportunities in addition to monthly meetings with outstanding speakers and periodic field trips. Our lectures are open to the general public and you don't have to be a member to attend. Our journal The Artifact is widely recognized, our monthly newsletter El Paso Archaeology keeps the membership informed, and our members serve as volunteers at the El Paso Museum of Archaeology at Wilderness Park. Other educational and fun activities include the following:
Texas Archeology Month... Every October EPAS participates in this annual statewide program in association with the Texas Historical Commission and the El Paso Museum of Archaeology..
Laboratory... Our lab facility at the El Paso Museum of Archaeology at Wilderness Park. It is available for studying archaeological materials and other EPAS activities. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join us on Wednesdays around 9:30 A.M. We often have experts available who can answer your questions on archaeology, geology, botany, and other related topics.
Library... EPAS has an excellent library of archaeological books, journals, and periodicals. The collection, located at the El Paso Museum of Archaeology, is a valuable research tool for members and the public.
Associations... EPAS is a member of the Texas Archeological Society, the Archaeological Society of New Mexico, the Southwest Federation of Archaeological Societies, and the Franklin Mountains Wilderness Coalition.
Liaison and Advocacy... Community liaisons attend local meetings as advocates of archaeological conservation and preservation. Currently, we are active in protecting the cultural and natural resources at Keystone Dam, Hueco Tanks State Historical Park, and Fort Bliss's Castner Range..
EPAS Board... The Board meets once on the third Sunday of each month at 2:00 PM at the EPAS Lab before the 3:00 PM lecture.
